The rule
Per the City's DallasNow guide, "all permitted work must be inspected and approved by city officials before the system can be used." Inspections are scheduled through DallasNow by the permit holder.
Common inspection stages
On larger jobs, plumbing is usually inspected before it is covered: underground or under-slab piping, then rough-in or top-out piping in open walls, then a final when fixtures are set. Gas work typically includes a pressure test. A simple water heater swap may only need a final. The exact sequence for your permit is listed in DallasNow; we do not publish a fixed list because it varies by scope.
Before the inspector arrives
Leave work uncovered until it is approved, make the area accessible, and keep the permit information available. Failed items are corrected and re-inspected.
Fees, required inspections and processing details change; confirm the current requirements with Dallas Development Services (Planning & Development) before work starts.
