What needs a permit

The City's DallasNow guide lists gas piping within the plumbing permit. New lines for ranges, dryers, outdoor kitchens or generators, and repairs that replace piping, are permitted work. Dallas has adopted the 2021 International Fuel Gas Code with Dallas amendments (Current City Code).

Gas tests

After repairs, a pressure test is typically required before the utility restores service. See Dallas gas test requirements.

If you smell gas

Leave the house first. Atmos Energy advises leaving the area and calling 911 and Atmos Energy from a safe distance, and avoiding anything that could create a spark.

Fees, required inspections and processing details change; confirm the current requirements with Dallas Development Services (Planning & Development) before work starts.
