• Copper: orange-brown, scratch shows bright copper
• Plastic (PEX, PVC, polyethylene): white, blue, black or gray plastic
• Galvanized: gray, magnet sticks
• Lead: dull gray, soft, scratch shows shiny silver, magnet does not stick
