Permit and inspection
Sewer connections are among the plumbing work the City says needs a permit (Planning & Development Guide). Trenchless lining or pipe bursting is still a repair to the building sewer and should be permitted.
Public vs. private side
Under Dallas City Code Sec. 49-24, the City maintains a wastewater service connection from the main to the property line; the building lateral on your side is the owner's. If the problem is past the property line, call 311 rather than a plumber. See who is responsible for a broken sewer line.
Work in the right-of-way
Digging in a street, alley or parkway can require separate City approvals beyond the plumbing permit.
Fees, required inspections and processing details change; confirm the current requirements with Dallas Development Services (Planning & Development) before work starts.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit for a sewer camera inspection?
No. A camera inspection does not alter the plumbing.
