How to Protect Outdoor Faucets

Steps

• Disconnect and drain the hose; a connected hose traps water in the faucet
• Fit a hard foam faucet cover or wrap with cloth, per the City
• If there is an interior shutoff for the outdoor line, close it and open the outside faucet to drain
• Check irrigation backflow devices and drain or insulate per the manufacturer

After the freeze

Run the faucet and look inside the wall or under the eave for leaks; a split inside a frost-free faucet only leaks when the faucet is turned on.
