Which codes apply

The City's Current City Code page lists Chapter 54 (2021 International Plumbing Code with Dallas amendments), Chapter 57 (2021 International Residential Code with Dallas amendments) and Chapter 60 (2021 International Fuel Gas Code with Dallas amendments). The 2021 codes took effect May 12, 2023.

What that means in practice

You do not need to read the code, but it explains why plumbers insist on things like proper venting, cleanouts, relief valve discharge lines, approved materials, and pressure tests. The code applies whether a contractor or a homeowner does the work.

Where to read it

The base ICC codes are published by the International Code Council; Dallas amendments are linked from the City page. Highland Park and University Park adopt their own codes.
